To report an unusual presentation of ocular toxocariasis

Results

Patients were aged 12 and 20 years-old. They were referred to our department for the management of unilateral uveitis. It involved the left eye for both patients. Visual acuity was 20/200 and 20/50 respectively. Anterior segment examination showed the presence of granulomatous anterior uveitis with elevated intraocular pressure, posterior synechiae for the first patient and was normal for the second patient. Fundus examination showed the presence of vitritis associated to peripapillary vitreoretinal band that extend to a peripheral choroidal granuloma in both patients. Swept source optical coherence tomography showed the presence of macular edema for the first patient. Careful examination demonstrated the presence of peripheral subretinal cyst for both patients. Ocular examination of the right eye was unremarkable for both patients. Ultrasound biomicroscopy confirmed the presence of peripheral cyst.

Conclusions

Peripheral ocular manifestation of ocular toxocariasis is foremost choroidal granuloma. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first cases reporting the presence of peripheral subretinal cysts associated to ocular toxocariasis. Were they small peripheral schisis in the shape of cysts or an ocular manifestation of the larva migrans?
